Furnace Age The typical life expectancy of furnaces is between 12-17 years. If your furnace is 15 years or older it's a safe bet to start furnace shopping now. Selecting a new furnace isn't a decision you want to have to make on the fly. Give yourself plenty of time to look through and weigh all of your choices. Increased Gas or Electric Bills Furnaces lose efficiency as they age and your system will lose efficiency faster if it has not been appropriately maintained.
